*New Guatemala, Huehuetenango Huista – Washed Organic

from $17.00

Tasting notes: Chocolate • Caramel • Dried Apple

Grown at elevations between 1,400 and 2,200 metres above sea level, this coffee brings together several traditional varieties, including Bourbon, Caturra, Catimor, Maragogype and Pache.

Behind the coffee is CODECH, an organisation established in 1998 that represents 10 member organisations and 476 members in the municipality of Concepción Huista, in Guatemala’s Huehuetenango region.

CODECH works to support the local farming community, with a particular focus on increasing the participation of women in society and the workforce. The organisation also champions organic farming, helping farmers build greater independence from external fertiliser suppliers while responding to growing demand for organically produced coffee.

It's a good reminder that there's a lot more to a coffee than what's in the cup. The people, the farming practices and the communities behind it all play a part.
